Former University of the Philippines (UP) School of Economics Professor Dante B. Canlas is
not new to National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). From 1992-1998, he was
already an Undersecretary. During his stint as undersecretary, he was known for his swift
decision-making ability, often managing to settle serious matters in a speedy and
authoritative manner.
As NEDA Deputy Director-General during the term of Pres. Fidel Ramos, he was responsible
for macroeconomic planning, social development policy formulation, public investments and
ODA projects programming and monitoring.
After his six-year stint at NEDA in 1998, Secretary Canlas returned to the UP School of
Economics where he was professor and research director until his appointment as NEDA
chief. He taught courses in macroeconomics, microeconomics, money, labor, econometrics,
mathematical economics, and development planning.
Sec. Canlas is a true-blooded alumnus of UP, having obtained his BS Mathematics, MA
Economics and PhD in Economics degrees in the university.
For his contributions, he was recognized as an Outstanding Young Scientist for Economics
by the National Academy of Science and Technology in 1987. |
