Another distinguished son of Batangas, Press Secretary Noel Claudio Cabrera is a veteran
journalist with a wide experience as reporter, deskman, editorial writer and editor.Sec.
Cabrera was Editor in Chief and Chief Operating Officer of the defunct Manila Chronicle
from l993 to 1998. Immediately after his stint with the Manila Chronicle, he was appointed
Press Undersecretary at the Office of the Press Secretary in Malacañang.
Sec. Cabrera started his journalism career as special events reporter of the
Philippines Daily Express where he later became a deskman, columnist, chief editorial
writer, editorial page editor and assistant managing editor. He worked with the Express
from l976 to l986.
Shortly before EDSA People Power I in l986, he became the managing editor of the newly
revived Manila Times. In the same year, however, he moved to the Manila Chronicle where he
became news editor and later managing editor. From l989 to l993, he worked as columnist
and editorial writer of the Manila Times, Philippines Newsday and The Daily Globe.
Sec. Cabrera finished his AB in Journalism at the University of the Philippines in
l969. He took his elementary and high school at the Ateneo de Manila.
The Press Secretary was a grantee of the National Endowment for the Humanities
Fellowship for Journalists at the University of Michigan (l982-l983). He was also a
participant to the Nihon Shimbun Kyokai fellowship for journalists in Japan in l980 as a
fellow of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists.
Married to the former Cecilia Ruiz Maigue with whom he has four children, Sec. Cabrera was
a Catholic Mass Media Awardee in l979 and the Most Outstanding Taaleño in 1997. |
