PGMA's Opening Statement during a Press Conference with Local Media |
Green House, Polangui, Albay (05 Nov 2003) |
| Good afternoon. I'd like to begin by thanking the people of Albay headed by Governor Bichara and the people of Polangui and Pantao headed by Congressman Joey Salceda for their wonderful welcome that they gave me in my visit today. I would like to thank also the governors of the various provinces of Bicol for coming here to express their support. And inasmuch as Joey Salceda, Congressman, talked not only about local matters in his original matters, in his statement, but also announced that he was withdrawing his signature in the impeachment raps against Chief Justice Davide, I would like to take this opportunity to open this conference with an update on my own efforts. Do we have a copy of the covenant? I have tried a common solution but its meeting obstacles. I remain hopeful of a principled way out of the impasse driven by the statesmanship of all concerned. We've made an initiative in the national interest, and we leave the house to thresh out its position under the leadership of the speaker. Meanwhile, the executive branch will continue to take the cue from the supreme court on the exclusive interpretation of the law. My focus on good governance and service is unremitting. I shall continue to be a unifier under the rule of law. Thank you. |
